RE: Especially for Youth 2018 music submissions

DATE: September 20, 2017

For many years, Especially for Youth has been providing participants of its summer youth programs an annual soundtrack of inspiring and uplifting songs to accompany and enhance their EFY experience. This is a formal call for song and vocal submissions for those wishing their material to be considered for the 2018 EFY album. Please carefully review the information below.

2018 THEME:  “Choose Joy”

The EFY album consists of 12 songs on various topics that are intended to inspire, motivate and build faith. Generally, 6 songs are in a ballad-style, and 6 songs are more upbeat. Songs can address topics such as faith, testimony, repentance, etc. Additionally, there are usually songs that address the specific areas of young women, young men, missionary work, etc. Songwriters are welcome to write and submit songs on any topic they choose, including those not related to the theme.

Songwriters should submit an MP3 recording of their song along with a lyric, to the email address listed below. Your recording and lyric sheet should be ATTACHMENTS to your email, not imbedded in the email itself. Song demos do not need to be fully produced. Please make sure that all your personal information is included on your lyric sheet. Also, please note that the 2018 EFY album will NOT include a hymn. Arrangements of hymns will not be accepted.

Vocalists wishing to be considered for the EFY album may submit up to 3 recordings in any style that showcase their vocal ability and range. Vocal demos do not need to be fully produced or extravagant, but they should adequately demonstrate the quality of the singer’s vocal musical ability and recorded voice.

The deadline for song and vocal submissions is November 15, 2017. All who submit material for the 2018 EFY album will be notified by email no later than December 15th whether or not their song or voice is being considered for the album.

Those seeking a better understanding of the style and caliber of songs and vocal performances being sought for this project should reference the past several EFY albums (available on iTunes and other locations). These albums serve as an excellent artistic guideline for music submissions, and they demonstrate the very high bar that has been set and maintained for the EFY album.

Please send all submissions to:

We’re creating something special — coming this October!

During this past year and a half, we have had the amazing chance to sing, write and share our pop music all over the country as well as different parts of the world. We love being a boy band, however, during our time as Beyond 5, we sometimes get a chance to gather like-minded youth groups together and share our feelings about what matters most to us; Our Lord and Savior, our families & friends, and our belief in a God that loves us and wants us to take care of each other. We believe that music brings us together and can inspire positive action no matter what religion or geographic location.

People continually ask us if we would ever consider recording the spiritual songs we sing at firesides or for youth groups. We have always wanted to record them, but until now, haven’t had the chance.

The songs on this special CD will be about faith, life, love and our belief in a God that wants us to serve others. This album captures Beyond 5 in a very intimate and personal way with five group songs + five solos–one personally chosen song by each of the band members.
The album is underway full steam ahead as we have already spent the last month in the recording studio. We can’t wait to share it with you!

Thanks for being part of the Beyond 5 family. God bless you!

-Zac, Tanner, Patch, Ammon, TJ

The boy band Beyond 5 was selected as one of the first acts to appear on ABC’s new singing competition “Rising Star” this Sunday at 8 p.m., according to an ABC press release.

The group members are from around the world, and four of its five members belong to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints although the group is not affiliated with any religious group.

Beyond 5 group members include TJ Ryan, of Salt Lake City; Zac Love, of San Antonio; Ammon Tuimaualuga, of Corona, California; Tanner Myler of Eagle, Idaho; and Patch Crowe, of Gold Coast, Australia.

The boy band was created by Russ Dixon and Tyler Castleton. Castleton also created the LDS boy band Jericho Road, and Dixon was part of the band Colors.

This past summer, Beyond 5 toured Asia performing in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Now they are set to perform live on ABC’s “Rising Star,” a singing competition in which viewers vote using a custom app, determining the fate of the performers.

More information about the singing competition can be found at Beyond 5 will also be performing in Clearfield on July 4 and in Draper on Sept. 12.

PROVO, UT — The newest boy band to explode onto the pop music scene, Beyond 5, celebrated their U.S. concert debut and the release of their first album in Provo, Utah at the Utah Valley Convention Center November 9th. Beyond 5 is a five-member boy band consisting of teens hailing from different parts of the U.S. and Australia. The group focuses on sharing positive messages through pop music. Beyond 5 recently returned from a service tour of Asia where they performed 27 concerts free of charge for young people in eight different countries. The group is quickly gaining in popularity, evidenced by over 25,000 views of their pre-album music video released on Youtube.   The release of their first full-length album was marked by the sold out concert in Provo where they shared the stage with opening act, Youtube sensation Maddie Wilson.

Songwriter and producer, Tyler Castleton, along with co-writer and business partner, Russ Dixon, produce Beyond 5 and searched them out during a 5-month audition process where nearly 500 hopefuls were whittled down to five talented performers. The members of Beyond 5 include: TJ Ryan, of Salt Lake City; Zac Love, of San Antonio, TX; Ammon Tuimaualuga, of Corona, CA; Tanner Myler of Eagle, ID; and Patch Crowe, of Gold Coast, Australia. “This is a group of extremely talented young men,” says Castleton. “We are so excited to release this first album and to have their first U.S. concert right here in Utah.”

Kurt Bestor, Sam Cardon, Hilary Weeks and Tyler Castleton to Help Select Singers for the 2013-14 Utah Jazz Season

SALT LAKE CITY (September 23, 2013) – Emmy Award-winning composers Kurt Bestor and Sam Cardon along with Top 10 Billboard singer Hilary Weeks and music director and producer Tyler Castleton will serve as expert judges at the National Anthem auditions for the 2013-14 Utah Jazz season. Tryouts will take place from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Oct. 4 at EnergySolutions Arena. Audition order is organized on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Utah Jazz seeks professional and talented performers to sing the U.S. National Anthem prior to each home game during the 2013-14 season. It is required that the National Anthem be sung in a cappella and traditional manner with no styling or individual musical interpretation. The audition is open to the general public, for individuals and/or small groups. There is no need for résumés, photos, portfolios, recordings, etc.

Among the panel of judges, Bestor, who will perform his 26th annual Christmas concert at Abravanel Hall in December, is an acclaimed composer with more than 40 film scores and international recording artist with more than 15 CDs. Cardon’s composer credits include 15 large-format films, television theme songs for National Geographic Explorer and Good Morning America plus original music for both the 1988 and 2002 Olympic Winter Games.

Weeks is a singer/songwriter of faith-based music with eight albums including her latest, “Say Love,” which landed on three Billboard charts this month. Two years ago her album “Every Step,” produced and arranged by Castleton, appeared on five Billboard lists, including No. 6 on Top Current Contemporary Christian. In addition to producing and arranging for Weeks, Castleton has wrote or co-wrote songs for more than 100 artists, including Martina McBride, Gladys Knight and Marie Osmond.

All participants in the audition will be notified by email whether they have been invited to perform the National Anthem at a Jazz game. If selected, the performer must sing the same version at the game as it was performed during auditions. Professional attire is required. Participants should enter through the Ticket Lobby/Will Call entrance on the northeast corner of EnergySolutions Arena.

JUNE 22, 2013 HONG KONG: “Beyond 5”, a group of five ultra-talented young men ages 15-18, will sing and dance their way across eight nations during the month of August. Their goodwill tour is being hosted by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The trip is being funded by numerous private donors. Tax deductible donations towards the tour can be made through Legacy Music Alliance, a non-profit group dedicated to supporting music education and positive music experiences for youth.

The tour will begin in Mongolia on August 2, and then travel to Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Kuching (E. Malaysia), Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, and finish in Taiwan on August 29. For a detailed schedule and music video, please refer to the “Beyond 5” Facebook page at

The group is the brainchild of producer and popular music composer, Tyler Castleton, who has co-written songs for such famous musicians as country music superstar Martina McBride, legendary music icon Gladys Knight, and entertainer Marie Osmond. He’s composed scores for National Geographic, Animal Planet and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. “The root for me is the excitement and energy that comes from great music,” Castleton said. “Then you have a magical thing that can happen. This group has that magic!”

Castleton and fellow “Beyond 5” producer, Russ Dixon, also an accomplished songwriter and record producer, are thrilled to bring this new band to Asia prior to the group’s extensive fall tour through the United States.

Auditions, similar to those for “American Idol”, were held for over 300 young men from approximately 40 states and foreign countries. The competition yielded five extraordinarily talented young men, from Texas, Utah, California, and Australia, including one who is not LDS. The “Beyond 5” group will be performing 23 free concerts, open to the public, during their Asia tour.

In addition to the free concerts, the group is also partnering with World of Difference, another non-profit group that is providing 12,000 free books for underprivileged children in support of local charities in the host nations.

Admission to all performances is free of charge.

The Group

We’re excited to announce that acclaimed producers and songwriters Tyler Castleton and Russ Dixon, along with an exceptional team of talented and connected music industry veterans, are putting together a new pop male recording group that’s about to take the music world by storm. The search for band members began in the fall of last year, and from the hundreds of young men from all around the country who have auditioned, 3 have been selected as members of this as-yet-unnamed group. This is our final call for auditions, and in the next few weeks, the final 2 members of this new 5-member team will be chosen.

The Vision

Modeled after some of today’s wildly successful bands, the vision for this group is centered on radio-hit melodies built on tight harmonies, driving, infectious beats and cutting edge production. Castleton and Dixon and their team are collaborating with world-class songwriters and music makers from Los Angeles to Nashville to New York to create smash hit songs for this ground-breaking group, which will begin learning new material, rehearsing, and recording immediately. In the spring of 2013 the group will release its first single and music video, followed shortly by a full album release. Though neither the songs nor the group will be overtly Christian in nature, members of the band will live and portray the highest LDS standards, and will convey positive and uplifting messages through their music.

The Future

Rehearsals will begin immediately for members of the band and will continue for the next several months as the group prepares to record a full-length album, stage a live concert show, and dive into an extensive performing and touring schedule. In mid-summer 2013 the group will embark on an extended international tour of Asia, followed by performances in select U.S. cities in the fall.

We are now accepting video auditions from male singers ages 13 to 17 for a unique professional recording and performing opportunity.

Greetings Friends!

Since the fall of last year I have been auditioning and assembling a group of young men to make up a new professional recording and performing group. With world-class songwriters, arrangers, producers, studio engineers and others from all across the country, I will be producing an album for this new group, which will commercially launch this summer. Additionally, this new group will depart for an extended tour of Asia in August of this year. This is an incredible opportunity and I couldn’t be more thrilled about the developments. We still have an open slot in this group, and I’m anxious to complete this very talented group of young men!

For those interested, the audition process is very simple. They simply need to make a basic video recording of themselves performing 1 to 3 songs then send us either the video itself or a link to the video (on YouTube, etc.). Find more information HERE. Please feel free to distribute or post this information and spread the word. If you need more information, don’t hesitate to contact my assistant Rachel Goates (435-610-0080,

Many thanks,

Tyler Castleton
